The Best of Northern British Columbia

Swing flies for the world's most prolific run of wild steelhead, as well as giant chinook salmon.

The Skeena. No other river in the world of steelhead compares, period. Fed by world-famous tributaries like the Bulkley, Copper, Kalum, Babine, Kispiox, Sustut and many lesser known rivers, the Skeena is a high intensity steelhead highway. From mid summer through at least the end of October, the Skeena and its tributaries' massive steelhead migration provide the world's greatest and most varied steelhead fishery. Here, both size and numbers are possible, with some of the Skeena's tributaries routinely producing fish to well over 20 pounds. But it's the entirety of the experience, the vast British Columbia wilderness, and the wild, undammed Skeena itself that make a trip with Upstream Adventures particularly memorable. Your guide, Todd Scharff, has decades of experience in both northern BC and the southern mainland. He is one of the premiere outfitters for steelhead, as well as Chinook salmon, coho and other salmonids. Todd takes your fishing time seriously. You will start before the sun comes up. You will fish proven water at the right times. You will fish via raft, jet boat, even helicopter if you so choose. Importantly, Todd has a variety of classified waters permits. Only a few guides are legally licensed to guide these coveted waters, and Todd has positioned himself to take advantage of those premiere waters to give you the best chance of success. Depending on prevailing conditions, you may fish relatively small tributaries of the Skeena, you may fish the big, brawny Skeena itself, or you may leave the drainage entirely to fish more remote northern water. Wherever you fish, if you are serious about getting a wild steelhead under your belt, you would be hard-pressed to find a better opportunity than Upstream Adventures with Todd Scharff.

In addition to steelhead, Todd likes to target the Skeena River's Chinook or king salmon, which have the potential to reach over 70 pounds, possibly even 100 pounds. These fish are swingable and can be targeted in the Skeena itself as well as smaller tributaries. These fish provide spectacular sport on heavier 9- and 10-weight spey tackle. Hooking one of these fish is only the very beginning! This fishery is not for the faint of heart.
